The Story Behind Every Thread
Sambalpuri sarees are woven using the ancient Bandha (IKAT) technique — yarn is tie-dyed before weaving to create intricate motifs. The shankha (conch), chakra (wheel), phool (flower) and iconic pasapali (chess-board) patterns have been passed down through generations of Bhulia (Meher) weaving families for over 400 years. Recognised under a Geographical Indication tag, the Sambalpuri saree is one of India's proudest handloom traditions.
